Amethyst is a purple member of the Quartz family, a silicon dioxide mineral, of the Trigonal crystal system with a Mohs hardness of 7. Its structure is hexagonal and is crypto-crystalline. It’s colors varying from pale to deep purple, is derived from the combination of trace amounts of iron and aluminum, plus natural or applied irradiation. Chevron Amethyst is a variety with the deepest purple colour and additional bands of another colour usually white, sometimes hues of purple bands or orange, red or yellow. Chevron Amethyst is formed with bands of Quartz, Milky Quartz or Hematite. Amethyst is found all over the world, including Africa, China, Brazil, Bolivia, Mexico, Canada, USA, Europe, India and Russia. Russian Amethyst is very dark and clear, Uruguayan Amethyst is uniform dark to medium.
Chevron Amethyst is a combination of Amethyst and White Quartz, mixed together in a V-striped or banded pattern. Chevron Amethyst combines the strengthening and enhancing qualities of Quartz with the stress relieving qualities of Amethyst. This symbiotic combination of minerals lends itself to a wonderfully spiritual stone, which is great for gently removing the veils that obscure some of the hidden meanings in life.
